In our first major study of a specific time period we look at Ancient Egypt and cultures of the Fertile Crescent. We see how the development of a written languange can enhance a culture.

We discover that the Egyptians were rule-followers. For thousands of years their artwork conformed to a rigid set of rules. There was a correct way to represent everything. Flies were always painted from above, and bees from the side. Things were represented from their most characteristic angle – creating an artwork that has “multiple view points”.

We also study one ruler who brought about a dramatic change in Ancient Egyptian culture and permanently affected their artistic style.
